Piney P has a playground!
In an awesome collaboration unlike any other, the Edmonton Arts Council worked with artist AJA Louden and playground builder Park N Play Design to build the city’s first ever playground that is also an art installation! A year and a half of work went into the design and creation of Balwin Playground, a.k.a. Piney’s Playground!
It was well worth the wait. This playground is unlike any other in Edmonton! It’s fully inclusive, with rubber base throughout, and at the heart of the park is a climbable statue topped with Piney, AJA’s signature piece! It’s surrounded by unique features and accessible play pieces, including a fun climber, a roller slide and a traditional slide coming out of a structure that looks something like an onion or seed pod!
There are features here that are perfect for younger kids – including the roller slide, drumming circle, a small 2-seat spinner and the slide climber. Bigger kids will love challenge pieces like the climbing poles, the tandem swing, the variety of spinners and the bright orange climber. (look at it from the right angle and you’ll see it becomes the centre piece of a larger-than-life, Piney, complete with Piney’s signature glasses and a colourful spinner that becomes the leaves!)
Balwin Playground is surrounded by mature trees for shade. There is a parking lot and plenty of street parking available.
