It’s the Very Hungry Caterpillar playground! The new (2026) Westbrook School Playground is now open in Edmonton! Aside from the caterpillar, who greets you as you enter the park, this playground is packed with cool features!
The main structure is ramped with lots of panel games and accessories along the ramp. (Think musical elements, a ball maze, a rainfall sound maker and more!) Slides of all sizes, including a huge, twisty slide, emerge from the main section.
Separate from the main area are two standout features – one is a cool climber that combines rope, metal and a rainbow plastic climbing stack. The other is a section of monkey bars and climbers set up in an obstacle course layout. My girls gravitated to both these areas.
Accessory features of this new Edmonton playground include a flexible warped wall, an umbrella spinner, a merry-go-round and a variety of swings. (6 standard and 2 saucer).
Westbrook School Playground is mostly based in wood chips with some rubber as you enter the park. There are benches and trees along the south and west sections of the park for shade. It’s just steps away from the classic wooden playground and gorgeous spray park of Aspen Gardens.
