TELUS World of Science – Edmonton is, hands-down, one of our favourite places in Edmonton! For years, we’ve loved our visits to the science centre. For us, the best part of membership is that we can pop in for a quick visit or stay all day, almost any day of the year!

The science centre first opened in 1984 replacing the Queen Elizabeth Planetarium. Since then it’s been one of Edmonton’s top destination attractions for both visitors and locals alike!

An annual family membership costs less than 3 general admission visits to the science centre and membership comes with so many other benefits. Members enjoy half-price IMAX shows, special rates on Laser shows in the Zeidler Dome, discounts at the Galaxy Gift Shop, at the Purple Pear Restaurant and on Kids’ Camps! As members, we’ve enjoyed early access to feature exhibitions and new shows as well as FREE admission to science centres and museums around the world! (Our family LOVES visiting TELUS Spark when we are in Calgary – and we’ve also visited Discovery Cube in California!)

The Digital Immersion Gallery is one of our favourites at Calgary's TELUS Spark.

Exploring the science centre

No two visits to TELUS World of Science – Edmonton are exactly alike, but for us, almost every visit begins in the Science Garage! It’s an amazing space to learn through play, tinker with science toys and enjoy hands-on science! My girls love the magnetic marble wall, the ball machine, the freedom climber, the rigamajig toys, and the brain teasers and puzzles that are located throughout the gallery. The Science Garage is also home to a workshop area – check the daily schedule for times and drop in for fun science activities faciliated by awesome science centre volunteers!

The Nature Exchange is another favourite for a variety of reasons! It’s home to unique natural artifacts, interactive exhibits (“Match the scat” anyone?!?), microscopes and much more. Kids can bring with them a report or can demonstrate knowledge about science topics to earn points that can then be traded for natural treasures like shells, stones and fossils.

CuriousCITY is one of the best indoor playgrounds in Edmonton! Geared to the 6 and under crowd, it offers kids a mini-Edmonton playspace! Sniff the plants in the mini Muttart Conservatory; change the coloured lights on the mini High Level Bridge; and tunnel through the river valley for a close encounter with its residents! This innovative playspace also includes a water-play area, complete with waterproof smocks, and a special area for the babies and crawlers!

Science around every corner!

The galleries at the Science Centre are endless options for inspiring curiosity! Launch rockets and discover black holes in the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery! Try dog sledding and design an iceberg in the Arctic Journey. See your veins, test your strength and even learn about blood types in the Health Zone!

In addition to these permanent galleries, there is a Feature Gallery that hosts exciting rotating exhibitions. Some of our recent favourites were “Dinosaurs: The Exhibition”, “Mazes & Brain Games”, and “The Art of the Brick” LEGO art exhibition.

My girls have attended day camps at the science centre the past few summers and always beg to go back! You can even book a birthday party packed with science-y fun! The science centre is a place packed with educational and fun opportunities for visitors at all ages and stages!
