Sweet Grass School

There’s a sign you can’t miss as you walk up to the playground at Sweet Grass School. It proudly notes that the playground was built by the parents and school staff in 1999 for the children of the community. We’d definitely put this one in the “older-but-still-awesome” category. It features standard structures with slides, climbers and monkey-bar variations, and also offers a few of our favourites – a tire swing, a classic version of the undulating balance beam, and a spacious version of the School Bus climber, which even has a slide off the back! There are also swings – 2 baby and 3 standard, plus the aforementioned tire swing.

If you visit in winter, as we did, consider bringing your sleds, as there is a superb sledding hill just beyond the park. The playground offers some mature trees for shade, plenty of benches, and sits just off an extensive south Edmonton trail system. Having visited in winter, I’m not entirely sure of this playground’s base, but given its age, I will assume it’s a sand park.
