Rio Terrace School

Talk about a glow-up! Anyone who remembers the old Rio Terrace School playground will be so impressed by the new school playground, which opened October 2023.

Our visit came the day after fences came down on the main playground. It has a tall main structure with a great green slide and excellent rope climbing features to access the top level. There are a total of four other slides, as well as a variety of obstacle course features and monkey bar variations. This side of the playground is rounded out by an accessible merry-go-round. The merry-go-round is based in rubber and the rest of the playground is based in wood chips. A swing is still to come and I suspect it will be a saucer swing.

The other side of the playground has one of our favourite pieces – the Grand Strand giant rope climber. There is also a circuit that includes hopping and balance features and a bright orange monkey bar circuit with rope climbers on each end. An umbrella spinner and a seat spinner will round out this section of the playground.

Both playgrounds are mainly based in wood chips. There is a large greenspace between and beyond the playgrounds. Rio Terrace Community Playground is located due west of the school and features another great playground and spray park!
