Prescott Learning Centre
This is a pretty special one. The playground at Prescott Learning Centre is a good, solid, fun playground. It has neat climbers, great slides, risky play elements, accessory pieces like a wave merry-go-round and a four-seat teeter totter, plus inclusive features like a ramp to a glider. But the playground at Prescott Learning Centre will stick in my mind for a long time because of one special day in October 2024.
The Hanki family of Spruce Grove has a daughter, Harper, who uses a wheelchair. Harper was going to be starting school at Prescott this fall and her family took it upon themselves to raise the money to resurface the playground entirely in rubber – a project that cost $178,000 dollars! (And people wonder why more playgrounds aren’t based in rubber! But I digress…)
A celebration was held in October 2024 to unveil the newly resurfaced playground. The rubber base is blue and green to match the school colours.
The playground at Prescott Learning Centre stands out in my mind for one other big reason – it’s the first playground where I encountered a Gaga Ball pit!
I got to meet Amanda, Harper’s Mom, at the playground event. She asked me if the playground would get a Gold Star in my books. Absolutely, Amanda – you’ve more than earned your Gold Star!
