Ponoka’s Best Playground

Ponoka’s Best Playground? It’s easy to spot from a mile away – quite literally! The tall towers and super slide at Ponoka Elementary School make it a standout in this central Alberta community!
Officially called a “Skywalk”, the rope-bridge structure connects two crows-nest cabins that can only be reached by climbing up the incredible rope structures. The zippy slide is a blast! (Yes, I tried it along with the girls – it’s FAST and so much FUN!)
The rest of the playground is great too. We especially love the simple but challenging obstacle course equipment. There’s a tent-like bridge feature, a series of hopping logs and pipes, and an industrial-looking structure with monkey bars and all kinds of climbing pieces. We love things that spin, so the umbrella spinner, the Supernova circle and the unique wheel-style merry-go-round were very popular with our group. (You can also find the same Wheel-go-round at THIS great park in Devon!) Gymnastics bars, balance beams and a pair of saucer swings round out the fun at this great playground.
There are benches and picnic tables on site. This is definitely a playground that is geared toward older kids and those who love a challenge. If you’re visiting with little ones, or on a hot day, you can pop across the street to Lions Centennial Park, which features a colourful playground and adorable spray park.
