“MOM THIS PLAYGROUND HAS CLIFFHANGERS!!!”

Those were the last words I heard as the girls FLEW out of our truck and made a beeline for the incredible new playground at Joey Moss School in Southwest Edmonton! I always say that I see playgrounds through the eyes of the girls at whatever stage they are at – and as a mom of two nine-year-old mini-ninjas, I can confidently say this is their favourite new playground in Edmonton so far in 2024!

There are so many options here for kids who love to climb, swing, monkey, balance and race. This playground features a tall slide tower as the main structure – it has one large curly slide out the front and twin orange slides off the back. There is an epic obstacle course extending from the tower – it includes monkey bars, gliders, rope climbers and the aforementioned cliff hangers.

Joey Moss School playground has tons of accessory features. There is a swingset with 4 standard swings as well as a saucer swing. A wide variety of spinners are here too – a tall rope merry-go-round, two seat spinners and a spinning-tilting-wobble-bubble (my name). An inclusive play area features a clubhouse with finger games, puzzles and sensory features, as well as a communication board. An intriguing green board with additional sensory features is yet to be installed.

This playground is based in woodchips, with one section of pour-in-place rubber. There are a few benches around the park too.

The playground is appropriately designed in Orange and Blue – the colours of the Edmonton Oilers. The school is named in honour of the late Joey Moss who was a longtime employee of the Oilers – you can read more about Joey’s legacy HERE.
