Jackie Parker Park

One of Edmonton’s biggest playgrounds just got even better! The newest inclusive playground in Edmonton is at Jackie Parker Park and it’s now open for play!

The new play area is fully accessible with rubber base throughout. It has a main structure that has ramp access on two sides. There are several pieces of equipment that could be rolled onto for those using wheelchairs or mobility devices – these inclusve a glider and an in-ground merry-go-round.

Yalp’s electronic games the Memo and the Sonu can be found here too! This is the second Yalp Memo playground game in Edmonton. You’ll find the other at the Marquis Playground. (We have a tutorial on how to play Yalp Memo Games – find it HERE!)  This is Edmonton’s first Yalp Sona game – it’s another interactive electronic playground game with light and sound features. The main structure of the playground offers a roller slide with a transfer seat at the base. There is also a freestanding slide that has a transfer station and fabric ramp leading up to the slide – along with climbing features on each side for a variety of different ways to use the equipment.

A beautiful music area based in turf, a challenging log climber and a swing set with saucer, standard and an accessible tandem swing are among the big pieces that round out this new playground.  Throughout the park you’ll also find sensory features like touch boards and sound board and a scavenger hunt game.

This is all in addition to the original Jackie Parker Park, which was already Edmonton’s largest! It has five distinct sections: a challenge area for kids who love to climb and swing;  a massive traditional main playground;  a nature park with rocks, logs and huge climbing wall; a spray park with a variety of spray features plus a water play section; and a separate toddler park with two baby swings and a sand pit.

This playground is situated alongside a beautiful pond. It offers a full bathroom and warming building with water bottle fill station. Enjoy a picnic at one of the many sites – several have camp stoves and there is a large fire pit too. In the winter, an excellent outdoor skating rink is created, not on the pond but on the land to the west of the bathroom building.  There is a massive parking lot with entry points to each of the six different play spaces.
