There is simply no better way to get into the Christmas spirit! Edmonton knows how to celebrate the season – there are so many fun events. Among our favourites are the Holiday Light-Ups and Santa Parades!

Light-Ups 2023

  • Borealis Lights – November 17, 2023 to January 7, 2023 – Mon-Thu 5pm-9pm; Fri-Sun 5pm-10pm; Dec 22-Jan 1 5pm-10pm

A gorgeous ticketed drive-through light display!

Be there as the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald tree is lit for the season! Enjoy hot chocolate, fresh cookies and live music from a children’s choir!

Butler Memorial Park, 15715 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton

Enjoy free hot chocolate, roving performers, musical entertainment and the official lighting of Butler Memorial Park.

Alexandra Park, 4919-47 Avenue, Leduc, Alberta

The Light-Up The Park event kicks off the Light-Up Leduc program!

Festival Place, 100 Festival Way, Sherwood Park, Alberta

Music, games, activities, a visit from Santa and the official light-up for Strathcona County! (Wear winter clothing – most activities are outdoors.)

Greenland Garden Centre has filled their botanic garden with light displays including glowing swings, teeter-totters and two light tunnels!

Ticketed, drive-through holiday light display featuring holiday favourites new and old, plus a huge drive-through light tunnel!

City Hall, 10005-102 Street, Fort Saskatchewan

Get a photo with Santa, the Grinch and other characters, plus fire shows, drummers, a petting zoo and the official light up!

Muttart Conservatory, 9626 – 96 A Street, Edmonton

Each year the feature pyramid at the Muttart Conservatory is transformed with holiday splendour!

3pm-6pm at Concordia University Main Campus, 7128 Ada Blvd, Edmonton; 6pm-6:15pm Carolling from Main Campus to Magrath Campus; 6:15pm-7pm choir and sing-along plus lighting of Magrath Campus, 6240 Ada Blvd, Edmonton

Enjoy crafts, music and hot chocolate before carolling to the Magrath Campus for the holiday light-up and sing-along! RSVP is requested.

Seeing Santa will be just part of the fun at the Edmonton Christmas Market at Fort Edmonton Park! Enjoy entertainment, light displays, ice carvings, wagon rides, trolley rides, carousel rides, the market and more!

Ticketed indoor light festival. The 2023 theme is “The Jolly Jumble”! Help Santa’s elves decorate the magical Christmas tree!

Stroll the lit grounds of the Leduc West Antique Society. Just $2 per person and all money raised supports programs in Leduc!

Perron District, St. Albert

Enjoy a visit from Santa & other characters, plus crafts, a petting zoo, train rides, an inflatable hockey rink & more! Outdoor event.

Main Street, Stony Plain

  • Zoominescence – December 1, 2023 to January 3, 2024 – Weekends + the full two weeks over Christmas & New Year

Edmonton Valley Zoo, 13315 Buena Vista Road, Edmonton

See the Zoo in a new light during this fundraiser event for the Edmonton Valley Zoo! Check their calendar for character visits! The Conservation Carousel will be open for rides by donation during Zoominescence!

104 Street north of Jasper Avenue

This NEW Downtown festival will include an interactive LED wall, lantern-making, puppet-making and ice-carving workshops, free arcade games, an indoor market, photos with Santa and much more!

The Holiday Tree light-up ceremony will take place on Violet King Henry Plaza on 99 Avenue and 108 Street. Construction at the legislature grounds may affect this year’s display, but lights will be on along the Plaza and also on the Legislature South Grounds.

Celebrate the Season musical performances are held inside the Legislature Rotunda on Friday afternoons from 12pm-1pm (December 8, 15, & 22) and Friday and Saturday Evenings from 6:30pm-7:30pm (December 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23). See more HERE.

No stops in Edmonton this year for the CP Holiday Train, but the trail will be in Camrose (1:15-1:45pm) and Wetaskiwin (3:30-4pm) on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The train collects donations for Food Banks of Canada.

148 Street from 99 to 92 Avenue, Edmonton

A holiday tradition in Edmonton’s Crestwood neighbourhood! Open street nights (pedestrians only) will be held on December 9, 16 and 23. Sleigh Ride dates are December 8-10, 15-17, 21-23 and 27-29. Sleigh Ride tickets go on sale on November 18 at 12pm!

Tours leave from City Hall, Bus Stop #1123, 99 Street and 103A Avenue

These two-hour long tours take guests to some of Edmonton’s holiday light highlights, like Candy Cane Lane, the Alberta Legislature and other locations. Tickets are just $5 each and guests can bring donations for Edmonton’s Food Bank which will be dropped off at City Hall.

From Airport Road to Kingsway Mall, Edmonton

Santa and his friends will parade through the street then make his way to Kingsway Mall.

Join the fun as Santa, Mrs. Claus and their friends parade through the mall to welcome the season!

Leduc Downtown District

Santa makes his way through the streets of Downtown Leduc!

Downtown Fort Saskatchewan

Santa, in his sleigh, will make a trip through downtown Fort Saskatchewan! Elves along the route will collect letters too!
