New additions and old favourites come together at the updated playground (2025) at Glen Allan School in Sherwood Park. New additions include a large play area featuring a tall tower with two impressive slides – as well as a huge bank of swings, including a fun tandem swing that got a lot of attention from kids during our visit! There is a smaller play structure that is ramped, as well as spinners, a cute car, and a zipline with a swing attachment. (Truthfully, this is my least-favourite type of zipline. The combination of the swing attachment and platforms that don’t go back far enough make for a ride that is anything but zippy… however, kids always find a way! We spotted kids coming up with some creative alternatives, including tummy-riding on the swing attachment, running the zipline down the ramp to try to get speed, and giving up on the zipline and just climbing on the bars above!)
The smaller of the two main structures is ramped and there is a newly paved tarmac leading from the school up to the access point. The tarmac space adjacent to the school is painted with fun games including a giant snakes and ladders, ribbon racing paths and the Glen Allan Raceway, which will be fun for bikes and scooters!
An old playground remains to the west of the new park (not pictured here) as well as several pieces of freestanding gymnastics and fitness equipment that are sprinkled around the playground site. There are benches and picnic tables plus a large green space beyond the playground. There are some large trees for shade.
