Calgary’s TELUS Spark

Did you know? If you are a member of the TELUS World of Science Edmonton, your membership offers free admission to a consortium of other science centres and museums around North America! It’s part of the Association of Science and Technology Centres Travel Passport Program. The closest option for Edmontonians is Calgary’s TELUS Spark Science Centre!
We love visiting TELUS Spark! Below are a few of our favourite features. Keep scrolling for our “know before you go” tips, as well as the address, map and links!

DIGITAL IMMERSION GALLERY
- Referred to as the “3,000 square foot pixel playground”, the Digital Immersion Gallery is a unique chance to be a part of a story or visual experience. Imagery covers the gallery from floor to ceiling and often involves motion detection features!
- “Sacred Defenders of the Universe” is the current feature in the Digital Immersion Gallery. It tells the story of how four heroes emerged from “The Great Conflict” to defend the earth. My daughter was absolutely captivated! We returned to the gallery three times during our visit and watched the full story several times!
- Tip: “Sacred Defenders of the Universe” is on until November 2023

OPEN STUDIO
- Its slogan is “Think with your hands”! Open studio is a place to play, create and tinker! This area features everything from electronics to old fashioned building materials and everything in between. A popular area features virtual reality games. We also tried making a stop-motion movie, constructing air-pressure ball tunnels, and the girls’ favourite, the dress form centre!
- Tip: If you’re hoping to try one of the Virtual Reality experiences, make that your first stop of the day, as it tends to get filled up fast on busy days!

CREATIVE KIDS MUSEUM
- Billed at 10,000 square feet of fun for young scientists, the Creative Kids Museum offers much more than just the maze-like play structure pictured here! There is a lot of hands-on play for kids, with options to please all the senses! The Theatre allows kids to dress up and perform on stage – or work behind the scenes and operate the lights and background effects! A huge water play area takes up the centre of this gallery – you might consider packing a change of clothes!
- Tip: The Creative Kids Museum has bathroom buildings and water fountains right inside. There are separate areas for babies and toddlers. There’s also a nursing room available.

WONDERSPACES
- Art and science meet in this unique exhibit full of light, colour and interactive opportunities! “Body Paint”, pictured above, was our favourite part of the exhibit, but “Plume”, “Blooms” and “The Last Word” were among the other notables we enjoyed!
- Tip: Wonderspace is on until October 2023

THE BRAINASIUM
- The Brainasium is much more than just a tall tower and super slide! This outdoor play space is full of opportunities to think AND play! We LOVE the extensive log climbing area, the undulating balance beam, the different kinds of swings and so much more. There are also signs located all around the park with information and tips about things like risky play and information on why play is important! Something we’re looking forward to for our summer visit is the new Junkyard Playground – a unique area for playing with discarded materials.
- Tip: The Brainasium is a fenced play area and is only accessible from inside TELUS Spark.
