Calgary’s Osprey Playground

Calgary’s Osprey Playground in the Rockland Park neighbourhood of northwest Calgary is a great community playground! The giant osprey, towering over its “nest” is stunning. The real draw here is the zipline system.
If you’re looking for a Calgary playground with ziplines, this one should be on your list! It has not one, but TWO cable-track ziplines. The advantage of cable-track over fixed-track ziplines is that the cable-track ziplines bounce. These ones have a particularly smooth glide and the girls spent a lot of time playing on them.
The osprey is climbable and the slide is accessed from inside the bird’s belly. The nest is a uniqu feature that can be accessed by stairs, ropes or poles. A climbing system is beneath it and other access points are around the perimeter. There are some bird and egg themed finger games on the inside of the nest too.
Accessory features at Osprey Nest Playground include 2 spinners, a teeter-totter, and a large swing set. There are 2 standard swings and 1 saucer swing. This playground is based in rubber with wood chips beneath the zipline track. There are benches and picnic tables nearby – plus a real osprey nest up a giant pole!
Beyond this playground is the Bow River. We noticed a nature trail leading down from the neighbourhood into the valley below but we didn’t have time to explore.
If you’re passing through Calgary on your way to the mountains, this playground is a great choice for an energy break! It’s located just a short distance off the Stoney Trail ring road. It’s a 10 minute drive from the Calgary West Farmers’ Market, which is an indoor, year-round market with bathrooms, market goods and cafes.
