1. Waskasoo Playground

  • 45 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta
  • Waskasoo is Cree for Elk and this beautiful Earthscape Playground is an Elks head with climbable antlers! This playground is small, but so incredibly beautiful! It also features a small bank of swings, a sand pit where diggers can uncover dinosaurs and some mature trees for shade.

2. Evergreen Community Playground

  • Evergreen Way & Emerald Drive, Red Deer, Alberta
  • Both girls voted this playground as their favourite in Red Deer! Pictured below is the tall slide tower with cool climbers on both sides. Not pictured is the massive wooden obstacle course! We spent more time here playing than we did at any other Red Deer Playground! There is also a lovely boardwalk over a pond, so you can add a little nature walk to your adventure!

3. Kerry Wood Nature Centre

  • 6300 – 45 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta
  • My kids adore Imagination Grove and Harmony Garden at Kerry Wood Nature Centre. We always spend ample time playing the innovative musical instruments in Harmony Garden. A giant slide, thick tightropes and a water pump round out the equipment in this unique natural playground in Red Deer. Bonus points for having trees to climb, huts to hide in and beautifully engraved picnic tables in the shade!

4. Timberlands Park

  • 300 Timothy Drive, Red Deer, Alberta
  • Find this newer playground, based in rubber, alongside an older playground and a separate music playground located just outside Barrie Wilson Elementary School and the Timberlands Branch of the Red Deer Public Library. We love all the cool climbers, the slides and the spinners!

  • Large spray park set inside a fenced playspace – check! Water features that everyone from toddlers to pre-teens will love? Check! Tons of picnic tables with umbrellas for shade? Check! Bathroom/changerooms on site? Check! What more could you ask for from a spray park?!? Woody’s Spray Park in Red Deer is a gem and a popular spot on a hot day! Bonus, there are not one, but TWO school playgrounds at this site to extend the fun.

8. Central Spray and Play

  • 48 Street & 47 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta
  • A river of blue runs through this well-spaced spray park! Ground sprayers, squirting flowers, tipping buckets, dripping leaves and a misting structure were among our favourites here! There is also a special section just for the younger kids set at one end of the park. The other end offers a bathroom/changeroom building with exterior showers and water fountains.

10. Bower Ponds Playground

  • 4715 Fountain Drive, Red Deer, Alberta
  • An older but still awesome playground, Bower Ponds playground features tons of kid favourites in bright cheery colours. Our favourite piece of equipment here is the spinning-tilting-rocking contraption at the south end of the park! The entire play area here is based in rubber with separate areas for big kids and toddlers. There are trees for shade and plenty of benches and picnic tables around this playground.

This playground features a good mix of challenging structures along with equipment perfect for little kids! There is an inclusive chuckwagon bouncer along with cowboy and cowgirl cutouts as part of the ramped main structure. Half the playground is based in rubber and there are mature trees for shade.
