I dare say it was worth the wait!
Kensington School is now home to an incredible inclusive playground! The playground, opened in fall 2024, is the first real playground the school has had in its 60+ year history!
Creating an inclusive play area was clearly important to the parents group that fundraised exhaustively for this park. The entire playground is based in pour-in-place rubber. The main structure is ramped – but that’s far from the end of the inclusive features. Kensington School park also offers:
-An in-ground merry-go round
-A roller platform
-roll-up features including the Movmnt electronic game
-Communication board
-A sensory seat
-An accessible circuit slide. (Watch video #2 below where I explain the circuit)
My kids’ favourite part of the new playground was arguably the in-ground trampoline – a first of its kind in Edmonton! They also loved the variety of unique climbers, the gymnastics bars, and the circuit layout of some of the accessory equipment.
Kensington School playground is based entirely in rubber. There are no trees for shade.
This playground was designed and built by the team at PlayQuest Recreation.
