Bertha Kennedy School

Purple, blue and orange as far as the eye can see! The cool new playground is a welcome addition to Bertha Kennedy School in St. Albert!

Without a doubt the best part of the Fall 2024 update to the BK school park is the outstanding, multi-faceted climber that spans the main structure. Unique climbing features extend off the side of the structure, offering kids a variety of ways to move up, down and across.

This playground is now home to a zipline. The attachment is a swing seat, rather than the standard platter. It would be great to see the swing swapped out for a platter or see the platforms extended for this piece of equipment because as it sits now, kids can’t get much of a backswing on the zipline, leaving the ride slow and underwhelming. We visited on a weekend and most kids called for parental help to use this piece of equipment. Few kids will have the height or power to pull the swing back for their friends, which means this piece of equipment may not get as much attention during recess as it does when there is adult help available.

There are tons of accessory pieces at this playground including a merry-go-round, gymnastics bars, a teeter-totter, a bouncing surf board, a pod spinner and a large swing set.

A cute wooden car remains in a separate sand pit just off this playground and the old playground is still on site too. A paved section between the two playgrounds is home to games like four-square.

All playgrounds are based in sand. There are plenty of picnic tables, benches and mature trees for shade.
