Willow Park School
Willow Park School in Leduc is now home to a bright and colourful inclusive playground that can be seen from Highway 2! The prominent, eye-catching feature is The Big Kahuna – a bright yellow fish that serves as a bridge on the high structure and had monkey bars underneath.
This playground has rubber base throughout, making all areas accessible for those who use wheelchairs or mobility devices. The main structure has a ramp that leads onto a glider, and there is an in-ground merry-go-round. Additional inclusive features include the wide slide – known as the Avalance slide. The base of this slide is at transfer height, so children who can leave their wheelchairs could transfer to the slide, pull themselves up the slide using the higher side rail and then slide down.
This playground has a really neat ball track machine, allowing kids to send large metal marbles through a variety of courses. There is a cute playhouse, with a large opening on one side to make it more accessible. Hippo and Gorilla play structures round out the park.
The old playground, based in sand, is still located just west of the new playground. It features a variety of climbers and slides, plus lots of swings. (5 standard, 2 tire swings and an accessible chair.)
There are picnic tables and benches and large open green space, plus a small sledding hill.
