Proof that pocket playgrounds don’t have to be boring.
Good things come in small packages at Lodgepole Inclusive Playground in St. Albert! This new inclusive playground in St. Albert features rubber base through most of the park. (The swingset was salvaged from the old playground and remains in sand.) The main structure is ramped as well.
Inclusive features here include an in-ground merry-go-round, a “universal swing”, a four-seat teeter-totter and a huge variety of accessories like a rainbow xylophone, a rainfall sensory feature, and a marble game, among others. Standout accessories are the free-standing fuel pump station and tool bench station! There is also a 2-sided imagination station labelled as Jordyn’s Cafe – a nod to the daughter of the family who undertook most of the fundraising needed to replace the existing pocket playground with an inclusive playground. (Read more about the Borodawka family HERE.) This playground also features a communication board and a sign language board.
Lodgepole Inclusive Playground is based mainly in rubber with sand under the old swing set. It’s located along the trail system and there are plenty of trees nearby for shade.
This playground was designed and built by PlayQuest Recreation.
