Wes Hosford School

I love the trend we’ve seen this summer toward keeping awesome existing school playgrounds and adding features to make them even awesome-r! Add Wes Hosford School in Sherwood Park to the list of schools who’ve gone in this direction!

The main playground structure at the school remains intact – it’s packed with slides, monkey bars, gliders and climbers. A large ribbon climbing wall and gymnastics parallel bars are also still part of the park. An abundance of new accessory pieces have been added around the existing equipment.

The biggest new piece is a large arched rope climber. The girls ran to it immediately! Several spinners are now part of the fun – including an umbrella spinner, a small globe spinner and a chair spinner. A bright yellow bouncy standing teeter-totter is also a new feature. This style of teeter-totter is my favourite because it’s a fun piece even when there is a weight imbalance. I can bounce with one of the girls without weighing down my side.

A newly paved sidewalk extended out to a small patch of pour-in-place rubber, which is home to a hard plastic saucer swing. Along the paved path are a series of finger games and musical accessories.

There are several picnic tables and benches on site and lots of mature trees for shade, including a nice grove of trees perfect for little kids to explore. This playground and school also sit right next to the Glen Allan Rec Centre, which can be accessed for bathrooms or water fountain during regular operating hours.
