Kimberley Alpine Resort
Kimberley is the real deal.
This year, our family was looking to branch out our ski experience. I put the question to my followers: “Recommendations for best family ski experiences?”. There were so many replies and great tips, but the most passionate responses, without a doubt, came from fans of Kimberley Alpine Resort.
I can see why. Kimberley’s tagline is “Small Town Charm, Big Mountain Experience”. It’s so true! As my husband put it, when you visit Kimberley, you aren’t visiting one mountain – you are basically visiting FOUR!
The experience
We started our day on Northstar Mountain, via the express quad chair. (We didn’t ever have to wait in line, BTW.) Right from the lift I was impressed – there are views for days! Also, Northstar gets sun all day – we had great visibility to go with great snow and perfect spring skiing temperatures!
After lunch, we split up. My blue-run-loving daughter and I stayed on Northstar. There are so many different runs to choose from there! My husband and black-diamond-loving daughter branched out to try Tamarack Ridge, Vimy Ridge and the Black Forest. They sampled a variety of blues and blacks off the Tamarack Double Chair and the Easter Triple Chair and loved all the options. (My daughter and I loved Buckhorn and my husband and other daughter loved the Dean’s Runs and Magma.)
The vibe
The Kimberley experience is laid back and super-friendly. Ticketing and the ski rental process were both done in record time! We encountered many staff members who clearly love seeing little skiers! (Special shout out to the fellow working the quad chair who always told us we were getting the best chair on the mountain, regardless of which number we had!) Skiers of all abilities visit Kimberley and the vibe is very cool – people are there to have fun, be active with their families and enjoy some sun and snow! We even saw a skiing banana!
Our one-day ski experience left us wanting more, and for our next visit we plan to look into accommodations right on the hill. Kimberley offers more than just downhill skiing – visitors can check out cross-country skiing, winter fat biking and snowshoeing too! If you’re considering a visit to Kimberley, it pays to plan ahead. The resort offers both multi-day and advance-purchase discounts!

- PAIR IT WITH A PLAYGROUND: Our family has visited Kimberley summer and winter during our visits to the Columbia Valley! The area is about an hour away from Kimberley and we’ve discovered some of the Best Playgrounds in the Columbia Valley!
